Firsts from Bombay First

  • At the request of Bombay First and with the concurrence of the Government of Maharashtra, McKinsey & Company undertook a study on Mumbai and the problems the city faces. The result of this was the ‘Vision Mumbai’ document which laid out a blueprint for Mumbai to transform itself into a world-class city.
  • International Conference on Security. After the terrorist attacks of 26/11, Bombay First was one of the first organizations to spring into action, and organize an international security conference entitled “Lessons from 9/11 and 7/7 for a safer Mumbai” in January 2009. Several experts from London and New York were brought in to share their experiences of counter-terrorism and disaster management. They also had high level meetings with the Home Minister, Addl. Chief Secretary (Home), Director General of Police and other senior officials.
  • International Conference on major issues facing Mumbai. Held “Megamorphosis – Resurgence of Mumbai” an International Conference on the transformation of Mumbai. With the help of International consultants Background Papers were prepared on Housing, Physical Infrastructure, Health, Education, Economic Growth and Governance. These papers were discussed and extensively debated by the International experts and participants at the Conference.
  • International Security and Resilience Summit entitled “Securing the City of Dreams”. Following on from the success of the January conference, Bombay First once again brought in several experts from London and the USA to discuss further strategies for securing our city, and they, along with local experts, shared their valuable perceptions with us. We were particularly privileged to have with us Mr. A. N. Roy, Director General of Police, Mr. D. Sivanandhan, Police Commissioner and Sir Paul Stephenson, Commissioner of the Metropolis of London. As a result of this conference and the one on one meeting held, there is a new plan of cooperation between the London and Mumbai Police Force.
  • International Conference on "Lessons from 9/11, 7/7 & 26/11, for Safer Cities" organized with London First, in London.
  • Organized a special Fundraising Dinner
  • A conference with the Mayor of London, Mr. Ken Livingstone on 'Building Global Cities'.
  • An international conference on 'Urban Renewal – Learnings for Mumbai'. Governor of Maharashtra, Mr. S. M. Krishna, was the Chief Guest. The inaugural address was delivered by Finance Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram. Delegates amongst others were from Australia, Thailand, UK and US.
  • Bombay First, working with the Government of Maharashtra has initiated the idea of a Concept Plan for the MMR to identify the Vision and the needs of the region for the next 40 years. This has been accepted by the Authorities and the work for the same is under way.
  • Bombay First has initiated the concept of Branding the city of Mumbai to reinforce the strategic position of the city.
